There is always a special excitement to the first game of any new season. The girls junior high basketball team started their practices in late January, and when Monday, February 12 rolled around, the team had both the first-time jitters and first-time energy. (more…)

A Friday, February 9 home game against Smithtown Christian marked the end of the Shelter Island School varsity basketball season.
The junior varsity’s season ended earlier in week.
For senior athletes Ray Wesley Congdon, Daniel Boeklen and Luke Gilpin, the Friday night game was the last of their high school careers. (more…)

Coming off a lopsided road loss against the powerhouse Greenport Porters on February 2, the Shelter Island School boys varsity basketball team hosted the Southold Settlers three days later and played a high-scoring thriller, only to go down in defeat, 73-63. (more…)

The Shelter Island boys varsity basketball team has had a slow start to the season, dropping its first two games.
Tuesday evening the team travelled to Center Moriches and were soundly defeated by the Red Devils, 82-52.
Shelter Island was up against a talented, physical team with an aggressive full-court press that eventually wore down them down. (more…)

The boys’ varsity basketball team opened its season at Miller Place in a non-league game on Friday, December 4.
Coach Jay Card has worked hard with his players with the Island boys competing in a spring, summer, and fall basketball league.
This season, the Shelter Island varsity team will not be playing Smithtown Christian or the Ross School because neither school will be hosting a varsity level team. As a result, Port Jefferson has moved down into League VIII, providing each team with 12 league games. (more…)
