Shelter Island volleyball had a new look in 2017.
We lost seven players to graduation in June, leaving only three returning varsity players. Laura Mayo took over the reins of the junior varsity team from Jim Theinert, a three-year veteran of the position. On the books it looked like a rebuilding year, but the varsity matched its record from 2016, and the JV was stronger than the previous year. (more…)

When you entered the gym on Friday, October 20, there was no doubt it was a special day.
Pink streamers and balloons adorned the stands, a poster about each player was on the walls, and a panel of paper ribbons referenced loves ones who are fighting or affected by breast cancer. (more…)

The Shelter Island School girls junior varsity basketball team played a closely contested game against the Greenport/Southold Clippers on January 5, winning 25-24, advancing to a 4-4 record at the half-way point of the season. (more…)

On Saturday January 30, the Shelter Island boys varsity basketball team had their home gym rocking before, during and after a 54-53 barn-burner win over the previously undefeated Stony Brook Bears.
This was the second home game in a row the varsity boys came away with a thrilling, 1- point victory. The win clinched a playoff berth for the Islanders. (more…)
