BEVERLEA WALZ PHOTO | Two Democrats elected to the Town Board Tuesday night. Jim Colligan, left, won his bid for a Town Councill seat and Supervisor Jim Dougherty was re-elected for a fifth term.

Democratic Supervisor Jim Dougherty won re-election Tuesday night for a fifth term, defeating former supervisor Republican Art Williams with 60.5 percent of the vote.

With 264 absentee ballots still to be counted, according to election officials, Mr. Dougherty tallied 610 votes to 394 for Mr. Williams, or 39 percent of votes cast. (more…)

I was speaking to Trina Milesi at the Suffolk County Board of Elections last week. She’s still looking to train election inspectors from Shelter Island.

There are classes in August in Southold, Riverhead and East Hampton. And if you can’t make a class, she’ll work out on-the-job training. (more…)

Republican Lee Zeldin, 34, of Shirley topped incumbent Democrat Tim Bishop in the 1st District Congressional race, starting with a lead when the first results were announced Tuesday night and then widening his margin of victory throughout the night. (more…)
