ELEANOR P. LABROZZI | The Shelter Island Drama Club presented the musical ‘Nice Work if You Can Get It.’

Over the next several days, leading to the New Year, the Reporter will be posting our annual Year In Review series of important stories from 2018.

The glitz and glamour of the Roaring Twenties may be long gone, but prohibition-era bootleggers, Gold Coast mansions and rich bad boys with no visible means of support were all alive and well on the stage of the Shelter Island School auditorium this March in “Nice Work if You Can Get It,” the Shelter Island Drama Club’s spring musical. It’s a fact — the annual spring musical offered by the Shelter Island Drama Club is a huge deal. Island residents know that one weekend each year they can count on seeing friends and neighbors filling the seats of the school auditorium for a crisply produced and entertaining theatrical experience. Island resident Jay Card, a senior at High Point University in North Carolina, is a vocal performance major and a member of HPU’s male a cappella group, The Toccatatones.

On Sunday, March 20, The Toccatones performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City along with other singing groups from across the country who had been invited to be part of an a cappella choir for Total Vocal 2, the second annual celebration of contemporary a cappella music. (more…)

The Shelter Island Chamber of Commerce applauds the efforts of Kelly and Brett Surerus, James Richardson and Carla Cadzin to promote and raise funds to ensure that the annual fireworks display continues.
