Rose headed for cross country championships

CLIFF CLARK PHOTO | Dan Rose (left) edged out his rival Alex Price of Pocono Mountain East High School to finish 11th at District Championships at Lehigh, qualifying him for the State Championships.

Dan Rose, grandson of Pat and Steve Lenox and son of Ken and Tammy Rose, has had a great cross country season at Pleasant Valley High School in Pennsylvania. He was seen by many running all over Shelter Island under the mentorship of Cliff Clark this past summer in preparation for his senior year of competition.

At the District Championship at Lehigh University on Saturday, his work paid off when he was the only member of his team to qualify for the State Championship on Friday, November 12. He finished 11th with a time of 17:28 in the 5-kilometer event, a more than 40-second improvement over his time last year.

Rose also beat his rival, Alex Price of Pocono Mountain East High School. Rose’s father is deployed to Afghanistan but was home on leave to see him finish third in his League Championships the week before.

Dan said after the Saturday’s event, “I was with Alex Price the whole race. I knew it was going to come down to the finish. I think I did a pretty good job today.”
