Join your friends and neighbors at the Shelter Island Library and explore how impressionist artists —— Renoir, Monet, Cassatt, and others — captured the beauty of the moment in paintings. Joyce Raimondo comes to the library to share some techniques to “Capture the Beauty” with impressionist painting. Participants will paint an outdoor scene using dabs of colorful paint. (more…)

North Fork culinary icon John Ross has been a professional chef since 1965. He was an early advocate of the farm to table movement at his Ross’ North Fork Restaurant in Southold, which he owned for 27 years. In fact, he didn’t have a freezer in his restaurant and ignored the trend toward convenience food. He baked his own bread from scratch and made all stuffed pastas in-house. (more…)

Roger Pasquier is a lifelong New Yorker as well as an avid bird watcher who has written several books about ornithology. In pursuit of this interest, he has spent long hours in Central Park which led to his most recent book. On Friday, June 3 at 7 p.m. the Friday Night Dialogues at Shelter Island Public Library is pleased to host Mr. Pasquier who will speak about his experience writing that book, “Painting Central Park.” (more…)
