The East Hampton Town Board has taken a blow against balloons. It sounds funny, but it’s no joke.
A town law barring the intentional release of balloons has been unanimously passed. It follows action by Suffolk County back in 2005 prohibiting the mass release of 25 or more balloons filled with helium or other “lighter-than-air” gasses. (more…)

Last month Newsday ran an Associated Press story headlined: “A rising concern? After straws, balloons get more scrutiny.”
I was surprised that no mention was made of Suffolk County’s action against balloons. Suffolk in 2005 passed a law prohibiting the release of 25 or more helium-filled balloons at a time. It’s enforced by the Suffolk County Department of Health Services. (more…)
