Members of the new Water Quality Improvement Projects Advisory Board have reviewed new septic systems Suffolk County has approved for installation.
Beginning in August, the county will require builders of new homes to install one of the new systems. The next county requirement will be upgrades to systems where planned construction will increase house size by 50 percent or more. (more…)

With only a few public officials present Wednesday afternoon, the Shelter Island Town Board concluded its public hearing on the proposed $9.9 million budget for 2015.
It will require that $7.73 million be raised from property taxes. That’s 5.9 percent more than was raised through taxes to support the current year’s budget. (more…)
