Okinawan sweet potatoes make a great holiday pie.

Okinawan sweet potatoes are one of my favorite foods. Having grown up in Hawaii, there was an abundance of them commonly found on dinner tables, menus and at luaus. But here in New York they’ve made their way onto my Most Wanted but Hard to Find List. (more…)

Thai curry is a surprisingly easy and quick meal to make and warm up during the winter months.

For New York City it’s Chinese food and for the North Fork it’s pizza, but for the tiny hippie town I grew up in on the Big Island of Hawaii, Thai food was the go-to take out dinner.

The Herald-Tribune reported the world’s first “porpoise to porpoise” long distance call made by Moby Dick, star of the porpoise show at Floridaland in Sarasota, to Keki,  one of the performing porpoises as Sea Life Park in Hawaii. (more…)
