It looks like a plan by the town to acquire property on Fresh Pond owned by Vincent Novak is slipping away.
“I’m not going to wait forever,” Mr. Novak said, he said Monday, noting that he was never consulted about a plan for the Peconic Land Trust (PLT) to raise money to help the town purchase the property. Even if he had been consulted, “I wasn’t thrilled about it,” he added. (more…)

Some news emerged in the controversy surrounding a proposal to use the town’s open space preservation money to buy a .54 acre developed lot on Fresh Pond.
At a September 7 public hearing before the Town Board, it was revealed that the Peconic Land Trust has become involved as a potential contributor to the purchase; a new assessment by the town has been made; and an artist’s rendering of a plan by an architect for the property has been distributed. Although the Water Quality Improvement Projects Advisory Board has earmarked $30,000 so the town’s Public Works Department can finish work on a new bathroom at Wades Beach, there are now questions about putting a nitrogen-reducing septic system at the location. (more…)
