In early April, the New York Press Association awarded Ms. Walz an honorable mention in the category of Feature Photography for this iconic image of three girls doing handstands on a picnic table at Crescent Beach. The judges summed up her photograph simply and perfectly: ‘Pure joy!’

With a three-month long school break on the horizon, it’s the perfect time to look into summer fun for the kids. Shelter Island Recreation youth summer programs are now open for registration.

Students learned about the female spies of World War II at Havens Barn in late November.

      On Wednesday, November 28, Shelter Island School’s 11th grade English and social studies classes visited the Shelter Island Historical Society to hear an intriguing lecture by Pat DelGiorno, called “Female British Spies of WWII.”  They were accompanied by their teachers, Ms. Colligan, Mr. Miedema, Ms. Treharne and Mr. Brennan.

On November 15, the 38th Anniversary of the opening of the Timothy Hill Ranch at Riverhead,  the Ranch honored Shelter Island resident Tim Murphy as their Ambassador of the Year at the Black Tie & Boots Holiday Gala. Also honored were Business of the Year, Neefus-Stype Agency and Randy Morreale, and Philanthropists of the Year, Steve and Lisa Feldman of Renovation Angel.
