MUSIC AT PERLMAN 

The Perlman Music Program offers an Alumni Recital featuring violinist Francesca Anderegg on Saturday, March 11 at 5 p.m. at the Clark Arts Center. Ms. Anderegg will present a solo repertoire with pianist John Root.

Prudent fiscal management of Goat Hill
To the Editor:
Every president and board of the Shelter Island Country Club has struggled with the same issue: How do we keep membership fees, golf fees and bar prices as low as possible so the club can be affordable to Islanders?

The downside to keeping the club affordable puts tough limits on the amount of money available to maintain the course. In prior years, the club spent roughly $10,000 a year, excluding staff salaries, on course maintenance. The current board has tripled our investment in the course and still more money is needed. Raymond O. Evangelista

Ray Evangelista, age 62, loving husband, father and brother, passed away on November 27, 2015 at Stony Brook University Hospital.

Ray and his family resided in Hay Beach.

Ray first came to Shelter Island as a summer resident at the age of 9 years old and then lived here as a permanent resident for more than 20 years. He was born in Queens, New York and attended Brooklyn Polytechnic High School. He earned his bachelor of science in civil engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 1975. A certified professional engineer for many years, Ray was president of Prude Construction Corporation for several decades, a business that had been in existence for three generations. (more…)

The Shelter Island Board of Education Tuesday night approved filing a hardship waiver to extend a deadline before signing off on a plan for the state-mandated Annual Professional Performance Review. (more…)
