Acclaimed ensemble to have musical residency on Island: Sinta quartet performs in three venues
Shelter Island Friends of Music continues its 2026 season with a free concert by the Sinta Quartet on Sunday, July 19 at 6 p.m. at the Shelter Island Presbyterian Church.
Praised as “alarmingly good and ravishingly charming” (Oregon ArtsWatch), the acclaimed saxophone ensemble will perform works by Antonín Dvořák, Marc Mellits, and others, along with their own arrangements of traditional music. A reception with the artists will follow the performance.
The quartet has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Hall, and the Beijing Center for the Performing Arts, and made history as the first saxophone ensemble to win the Victor Elmaleh First Prize at the Concert Artists Guild Competition.
Known for adventurous programming, the Sinta Quartet seamlessly combines classical masterworks, contemporary commissions, and imaginative arrangements drawn from folk traditions around the world.
While there is no charge for entry, donations are appreciated to support future concerts. Please arrive early to secure a seat. Shelter Island Friends of Music cannot guarantee admittance once the concert has begun or if the hall has reached its legally allowable capacity. The concert will last approximately 75 minutes with no intermission.
