Shelter Island Reporter obituary: Peter C. Gulluscio

Peter C. Gulluscio of Shelter Island died on Friday, Aug. 14, 2026, at the age of 87.

He was born on July 12, 1939, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Dominic and Antoinette Gulluscio. He spent much of his working life as a cook at his mother’s restaurant, Nettie’s Italian Kitchen, where he learned to cook the way she did and fed a good many people over the years.

As a young man, Peter worked as a projectionist at the Greenport Cinema. It was in that projection booth that he fell in love with Hollywood and the movies, a passion that stayed with him for the rest of his life. He had a particular fondness for the classics, and above all for the films of John Wayne. He also loved to sing, and in his younger years he was a member of the choir at Our Lady of the Isle.

Peter was predeceased by his parents and by his brother Anthony. He is survived by his brother, Charles Gulluscio; his nephews, Todd, Michael, Robert, Chris, and John Gulluscio; his niece, Dawn Garmin; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Isle Church on Shelter Island.
