Lions launch student trip to Epcot: Prime Rib Dinner raises funds for trip

The Shelter Island Lions Club launched a new event on Sunday, Oct. 11 — a Prime Rib Dinner — and the resounding support from the community will help the Island’s 7th- and 8th-grade students take their educational trip to Epcot at Walt Disney World in Florida.

According to Lion and Police Chief Jim Read, about 160 dinners prepared by Jamie Cogan were sold, with most of them served onsite at the Heights Firehouse by Lions volunteer wait staff, with enthusiastic participation by the 7th- and 8th-graders who served dinners and bused tables, under the direction of teacher Jennifer Gulluscio.

The success of the event, both as a fundraiser for the student trip, and a full house of Islanders enjoying great food and the company of friends, suggest that a new annual tradition has been launched.

The students got a firsthand look at the Lions motto in action: “We Serve.”
