Shelter Island winter — for the birds

With crisp, bright days and especially on bluer-than-blue water or in  a white landscape, the birds of Shelter Island become even more vivid to the careful observer.

Our friend Don Bindler sent us two photos of song birds (see below) he came upon this weekend — a male northern cardinal and white-breasted nuthatch.
