The familiar theme of “local boy makes good” is coming to the Shelter Island Friends of Music 2018 series. On Saturday, April 21, at 8 p.m. the greatly admired, 24-year-old American pianist Drew Petersen, who has long-standing ties to the East End as a summer resident of East Hampton, will return to the Island for his third appearance with the Friends of Music. BEVERLEA WALZ PHOTO | SIFM kicked off its new concert season with violinist Sean Lee and accompanist Peter Dugan in concert at the Presbyterian Church on February 18.
Sean Lee is an astonishing young violinist. Peter Dugan is an astounding young pianist.
Together, they opened the 41st season of the Shelter Island Friends of Music with an indelible performance that took the chill right out of a winter afternoon. A packed house cheered both the musical selections and the playing of these distinguished artists, both of whom are alums of the Perlman Music Program and are members of the faculty at Juilliard. The first concert of the 41st season of the Shelter Island Friends of Music heralds the return of distinguished violinist Sean Lee. A widely praised and honored member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Mr. Lee has performed on the Island as a member of the Perlman Music Program faculty, and has studied with both Ruggiero Ricci and Itzhak Perlman. The Shelter Island Friends of Music joyously celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2017 and honored its audiences by re-engaging five favorite performers from the past few seasons. The Shelter Island Friends of Music’s gala 40th anniversary season has ended with a memorable event.
The Brasil Guitar Duo was greeted by a huge crowd at the Presbyterian Church on Columbus Day weekend. This was the third visit by João Luiz and Douglas Lora to the Friends of Music concert series, where they been have been hailed for their playing and for their unity of approach to 18th century music and to the works of contemporary Latin composers.
