SUMMONSES
Javier E. Flores Campos of Shelter Island was ticketed on Aug. 18 for an unregistered and uninspected motor vehicle and operating out of class on Manhanset Road.
Thomas A. Cunningham of Shelter Island was ticketed on Aug. 19 for an uninspected motor vehicle on West Neck Road.
Josh M. Ayotte of Kingston, Mass. was issued a summons on Aug. 19 for failure to stop at a stop sign on West Neck Road.
Adam L. Shpeen of Brooklyn was ticketed on Aug. 19 for failure to stop at a stop sign on West Neck Road.
Lea Maria Ladera of New York City was issued a summons on Aug. 19 for operating a motor vehicle while using a cellphone on West Neck Road.
Mark N. Becker on New York City was ticketed on Aug. 20 on North Ferry Road for inadequate or no stop lamps.
Edward Helmore of New York City received summonses for an unregistered motor vehicle and failure to stop at a stop sign on West Neck Road on Aug. 20.
There were 18 parking tickets issued last week.
MARINE TICKETS
Pablo Aucopina of Flushing was ticketed on Aug. 15 at Bootleggers Alley for porgies less than specified size.
Silvo Navarro of Ridgewood was issued a summons on Aug. 15 at Bootleggers Alley for porgies less than specified size.
Miguel Aucopina of Ridgewood was ticketed on Aug. 15 at Bootleggers Alley for porgies less than specified size.
Evan Wildstein of Chappaqua was ticketed on Aug. 15 for having no distress flag on a jet ski in West Neck Harbor.
Robert Arnold of Bayside received a summons for operating a vessel near bathers at Crescent Beach on Aug. 15.
Randy Rodecler of Miller Place was ticketed on Aug.16 for imprudent speed by South Ferry.
John C. Aksoy of Edgewater, N.J. received a summons on Aug. 16 for operating an unregistered motorboat in the South Channel.
MARINE INCIDENTS
Shelter Island’s Marine Unit assisted Sag Harbor police in searching for a person and vessel reported missing on Aug. 14. Waters in Town jurisdiction were searched before the vessel and operator were located in western Long Island Sound. On Aug. 15, a marine unit observed a vessel that had run aground in Coecles Harbor, determined there were no injuries and assisted in contacting tow service. Loud music was reported coming from a vessel anchored off Crescent Beach on Aug. 15, drowning out music from the Perlman Music Program. The vessel was leaving when police arrived and loud music could be heard coming from it.
After a caller reported hearing “Help” from a white sail boat in West Neck Harbor, police investigated, interviewed parties and found no emergency on Aug. 16.
A marine unit assisted an East Hampton unit in searching for a missing swimmer off Mashomack on Aug. 16.
ACCIDENTS
Kevin Barry of Shelter Island told police he was driving southbound on Manhanset Road on Aug. 17 when he struck a fawn, which was dispatched due to injuries.
On Aug. 11, Fidel Chamale Soc of Mastic told police he was driving southbound on Locust Point Road when he came to a stop behind a stopped car operated by Justo H. Garcia Cerrato of Shelter Island, who then reversed his car and struck the other. Damage exceeded $1,000.
George L. Peirce IV of Edwards, Colo. was riding a bicycle westbound on Shore Road on July 30, behinwd a vehicle driven by Fergus Wood of London, UK. Mr. Wood turned left into the Sunset Beach parking lot without signaling. Mr. Peirce attempted to pass on the left by crossing the double yellow center line and struck the car on the driver’s side midsection, resulting in him falling off the bicycle. The cyclist said he sustained injuries.
OTHER REPORTS
Radar enforcement was conducted on Ram Island Drive and North Menantic Road and distracted driving in the Center on Aug. 15. Distracted driving enforcement was conducted on Manwaring Road on Aug. 20.
In other reports: police conducted well-being checks; responded to and reported downed tree limbs and wires; provided lift assists and assisted with lost property.
ANIMAL INCIDENTS
Responding to a report of a box turtle doing laps in a West Neck pool on Aug. 14, the Animal Control Officer evicted the turtle and relocated him to nearby woods.
The ACO assisted with searches for several lost dogs.
ALARMS
A carbon monoxide alarm was activated in Hay Beach on Aug. 15. Shelter Island Fire Department responded and no CO was detected. 2nd Assistant Chief P. J.
Lechmanski stated it was a false alarm. A smoke alarm was activated in the Heights on Aug. 15. SIFD responded and determined a false alarm. A smoke alarm in West Neck was activated on Aug. 16 due to cooking, confirmed by SIFD.
A alarm in the Heights was activated on Aug. 16, caused by a low battery. SIFD and 1st Asst. Chief J.C. Chavez confirmed no emergency. A smoke alarm was activated by a power surge in Dering Harbor on Aug. 17. SIFD confirmed no emergency. 1st Assistant Chief Chavez confirmed no emergency on Aug. 17 when an alarm was activated by cooking in Hay Beach. An alarm was activated in Dering Harbor on Aug. 18. SIFD determined the alarm system was filled with water and the alarm was appropriate. An alarm on the 18th in the Heights caused by cutting sheetrock was deemed appropriate by Chief Lechmanski.
AIDED CASES
Shelter Island Emergency Medical Services and Stony Brook Paramedic responded to aided cases on Aug. 14, 15 (2), 16 (2), 17, 18, 19 (2).
Seven persons transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. One person refused medical transport; one refused medical aid.
