Varney Poetry event planned with readings and reminiscences

The Eighth Annual Richard Varney Memorial Poetry Reading, sponsored by the Shelter Island Public Library, will take place on Friday, Sept. 18, at 4 p.m., at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.

The guest poet will be George Held of Sag Harbor, a master of poetic forms. Noted Shelter Island poet Virginia Walker will host, recall memories of Mr. Varney, and read her own poetry.

In addition, three members of the Art/Rich Poetry Roundtable, Roz Dimon, Yvette Janssen, and Karen Kiaer will read poems by renowned poets. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit the library or its website, silibrary.org
