Strongpoint cruise ready to set sail

With the Strongpoint Theinert fundraising cruise set to disembark  Saturday, the goal is still short of its $30,000 target.

South Ferry and the Clark family named a boat to honor 1st Lt. Joseph Theinert and since 2010 have contributed the boat for this annual event.

James “Jimbo” Theinert is reaching out to donors hoping their contributions will make this fundraiser, one of the organizations’ largest every year, achieve its goal.

Mr. Theinert, Joey’s brother, is president of the Strongpoint Theinert Ranch Board and a facilitator of its programs and a Gold Star family member — one of those who have lost relatives who have been in the armed services.

The money raised is earmarked to pay for four retreats in 2027. Each retreat program is structured to meet specific needs of those attending with the overall aim of helping them heal either from the emotional wounds they have endured as service members or Gold Star family members who have lost a loved one to war.

They pay nothing with costs covered by fundraising activities and contributions.

There are still some tickets available for the cruise at $100. Supporters will arrive at 4:30 to enjoy cocktails before the 1Lt Theinert starts its sunset cruise at 6 p.m. to enjoy live music by Dizzy After Midnight, dancing, a raw bar from the Shelter Island Shuckers, drinks and camaraderie until the craft returns to the dock at 8:30 p.m. The event also features an auction and raffles.
