El Labrozzi photo chosen for new exhibit: On view in Greenport theater
Eleanor P. Labrozzi, whose photographs regularly grace the pages of the Reporter, has had a stunning photo selected for inclusion in the “Impact” exhibition at North Fork Arts Center in Greenport, one of only 100 works selected out of more than 450 submissions.
She took the photo, “Skydancer” from Menhaden Lane during a storm, sitting in her car in the middle of the night hoping to catch dramatic moments of impact. “I’m a storm chaser,” she laughed in a recent interview, one of several activities she pursues that keep her busy.
At Shelter Island’s iconic moments, such as the Memorial Day parade, she can be seen in her American Legion Auxiliary uniform, helping to place the wreathes that she and her fellow Garden Club members have fashioned in one of the Island’s honored traditions.
“My children laugh at me for falling asleep standing up,” she said, saying they now compare her to her constantly active mother, whose favorite saying was “I’ll sleep when I’m dead.”
Among all her other activities, she’s now busy trying to revive the Ladies Bowling team that was a regular feature at the Legion lanes for years.
She has been photographing the Island now for over 45 years, and she’s available to capture special occasions, weddings, family portraits, maternity, pets and other events. Her photos can be seen at her website, Labrozziphoto.com, where the Scenic Shelter Island calendar she has produced for over 15 years can be ordered. “I always sell out of them,” she said, so it’s not too early to order one for yourself and some for lucky folks on your Christmas list.
A celebratory reception with light bites and wine will open the “Impact” show on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 4 to 6 p.m., and the exhibit will be on view until Sunday, Nov. 22.
