What is that? Oct. 31, 2026

Roger McKeon and Ed Hydeman vied for first place in last week’s photo ID sweepstakes (see below).
It was a photo finish with the stewards deciding Roger was a step ahead of Ed. ‘That’s part of the front of the pharmacy, just above the stairs,’ Roger wrote about the late, lamented Pharmacy, bought by The Soloviev Group in 2022 and which stopped filling prescriptions two years later.

The owners of the Pharmacy didn’t even bother to have a conversation with the community about the closing. Adding insult to injury, the long-cherished “Soda-Drugs” sign of the Pharmacy was taken down. That sign, an emblem of the Island, greeted Islanders and visitors as they came up the hill from the ferry.
The fate of the place is undecided, although word is there might be some kind of wine bar/bistro in the place. The Reporter will have more on this next week.
Peter Reich wrote to us: ‘That used to be a great place to go for a delicious breakfast or lunch at a reasonable price. It used to be a place where you could get your prescriptions filled by friendly staff.’ Elizabeth McKee and Linda Cass identified the steps right away, as did Jennifer Allen. Thomas Kenny, 11, was right beside his older Islanders in recognizing the photo.
On Facebook, Suzanna E Tulino, Trisha O’Brien, Arthur Luecker — ‘Used to be the Pharmacy. Now pretty much nothing’— and Mary Fran Gleason, Karen Haag — the ‘pharmacy’ — and Maximilian K. Pelletier all identified the photo.
