Senior point guard Dan Martin goes up to drain a 3-pointer Tuesday at home against Shoreham-Wading River.

Shelter Island’s boys varsity basketball team returns six players from last year’s team, including three seniors who started, namely Lucas Quigley-Dunning, who earned All-Conference and All-League honors, as well as All-League players Walter Richards and Dan Martin.  These three seniors will serve as Tri-Captains for this year’s team. On Friday, Nov. 8, the Shelter Island varsity boys and girls cross country teams ran at the Section XI Cross Country County Championships at Sunken Meadow State Park.

And the boys team, for the fifth year in a row, brought the county title back to Shelter Island. (more…)

This week, Ms. Dempsey, reports on local whites from the front lines of the vineyards.

One of the best treats in these winter months is a visit to one of the many wineries that dot the north and south forks. This time of year, many of them are still open, and not busy with the tours and wedding parties of the summer. The staff can take the time to explain as much or as little as you’d like to know about the wine-making process while providing the opportunity to sample their wines.
