The East Hampton Town Board is back in court on aircraft restrictions.

After spending months creating ways to minimize noise pollution created by private helicopters, the Town of East Hampton appealed a court injunction on one of three laws the town proposed in April.

The decision to appeal, made Wednesday, comes after Federal District Court Judge Joanna Seybert decided to further review the legislation that asks for the restriction of noisy aircraft trips at East Hampton Airport to once per week. (more…)

More than 350 people packed the LTV Studios in Wainscott Thursday evening for a public hearing on proposed East Hampton airport restrictions.

A public hearing Thursday evening debating the question of restricting aircraft flights over the East End took almost four hours with 70 speakers trooping to the podium.

More than 350 people attended the East Hampton Town Board meeting in a TV studio in Wainscott to air out the pros and cons of proposed local legislation, which if enacted, would dramatically curb flights into and out of East Hampton Airport. (more…)

The East Hampton Town Board did nothing, and action was taken.

What seems like a contradiction actually means that East Hampton has gained control over its airport and can address the issue of helicopter’s buzzing East End communities. This power was gained by not applying for grants from the Federal Aviation Administration in the new year. (more…)
