Starting over
To the Editor:
I am frustrated with the contradictions. Sometimes we are bragging about how Shelter Islanders have a sense of community, we look out for each other, we are proud of our autonomy, proud of our tourism industry, innovative with entrepreneurship to sustain that tourism economy, but then in the next breath, we are reminded about how to be a “good neighbor.” That our neighbors are to be feared, reported, and are abusers of the Island. Ouch
To the Editor:
The Village of Dering Harbor’s proposed “construction” law doesn’t control boat traffic, sea planes, helicopters, motorcycles, screaming jet skis and cigarette boats.

More disturbing is the exclusion of village employees and the golf club. Defending the law as a way to limit “noise?” Preposterous. (more…)

My family has summered on Shelter Island for over 25 years. Sailing into Coecles Harbor, we witnessed the slow decay of the cabin on Taylor’s Island and then, the amazing restoration of the island. Access by boat is easy. (more…)
