Enjoy a summer evening cocktail party on a deck overlooking an English garden on West Neck Bay on Saturday, July 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. when the Shelter Island Educational Foundation hosts its 10th annual Porch Party at the home of Dr. Karen Brush at 60 Westmoreland Drive.

The Shelter Island Educational Foundation will host its 9th annual Porch Party on Saturday, July 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. at “Windswept,” the Silver Beach home of Julia and Edward Brennan. Featuring wines donated by Laura Maniec Fiorvanti of Cork Buzz paired with cheeses for tasting from Reeve Andrew and Jessie King of King Andrew Cheese and other delicacies, the event provides a chance to chat with friends, enjoy the evening, and support this organization so central to the life of our community.

Art history course, by Otis College of Art and Design sponsored by the library. Learn about the role of the French avant-garde in modern approaches to art in the 19th century. At 6 feet, 7 inches, Bob Harris was easy to notice.
He always cut a dashing figure — with his signature tasseled loafers, a brocaded silk vest in summer, a crimson plaid Christmas jacket or some other elegant, attention-getting attire whenever the occasion called for it. Unless his work as an attorney for the Landegger family’s pulp and paper concerns required his presence in Europe or another far-flung part of the globe, Bob rarely missed a weekend on Shelter Island, where he bought his house on Cartwright Road in 1976.
