Last Friday Night Dialogues at the Shelter Island Library presented East End advocates for clean, renewable energy. They spoke about scientific elements involved with climate change, explaining how dependence on fossil fuels threatens life on earth. (more…)
It’s all in the family — sort of. The owners of Shelter Island House and the owners of Caci North Fork grew up together as neighbors in Garden City and spent summers together on the East End, so it might be a natural evolution that the two businesses will now operate under one roof here. (more…)

Shelter Island students mobbed the school gymnasium Monday afternoon — some in search of summer jobs that would put money in their pockets.
Others were looking for opportunities to volunteer to rack up community service hours that could win them accolades when they graduate and help them stand out from the crowd of college applications. (more…)

A quiet thoroughfare connecting West Neck Road to Stearns Point Road, the roots of Behringer Lane have historical ties to several Island institutions.
According to primary documents from the Shelter Island Historical Society (SIHS), the name “Behringer” refers to Louie Behringer. (more…)
