Celebrating Arbor Day

A holly tree was planted at American Legion Hall last week as the Garden Club of Shelter Island’s annual gift and salute to Arbor Day. Town Supervisor Jim Dougherty, Arbor Day Chair Carol Russell; then-President Jean Brechter; and School Superintendent Dr. Michael Hynes were on hand to mark the occasion — shortly after Shelter Island Highway Department’s Jim Lenzer planted the holly.
