Those named in arrest reports or receiving police summonses have not been convicted of a crime. In court, the charges against them may be reduced or withdrawn or the defendants may be found not guilty.

TRAFFIC SUMMONSES

Viviana Torres of Greenport was ticketed for failure to stop at a stop sign and speeding 35 mph on a 25-mph road on Aug. 2 on West Neck Road.

Marina Pascacio Nieira of Shelter Island was issued a summons on Aug. 4 for failure to yield right-of-way on a left turn on North Ferry Road.

Dianne M. Dolny of Shelter Island was ticketed for leaving the scene of an accident on Aug. 4.

Luis Benitez of Eastport received a summons for inadequate or no stop lamps and visibility distorted/broken glass on North Ferry Road on Aug. 6.

John T. Cahill of Greenwich, Conn. was ticketed for no/inadequate lights on Aug. 6 on North Ferry Road.

28 parking tickets were issued.

MARINE TICKETS

On Aug. 1 Nathan Somdric of Leyard, Conn. was ticketed for having insufficient personal flotation devices on his vessel in West Neck Harbor. 

Arturo Pliego of Brooklyn and Karla Vaque of Glendale were issued summonses on Aug. 2 for camping at Reel Point.

James M. Ryan of  Fort Lauderdale, Fla. was ticketed on Aug. 2 for anchoring a vessel out of the designated anchorage in Coecles Harbor.

MARINE INCIDENTS

A marine unit responded to a report on July 31 of two 25-foot power boats dragging anchor near West Neck Harbor, but was unable to locate the vessels.

The driver of a boat in Montclair reported on Aug. 1 hitting a large wake caused by several boats and a passenger sustained an injury. She was evaluated by Shelter Island Emergency Medical Services and Stony Brook Paramedic and transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital for treatment.

ACCIDENTS

On Aug. 4, at the Library parking lot, Dianne M. Dolny of Shelter Island backed her Jeep into a parked Tesla owned by Carlos Rivera of Riverhead. The driver did not report the accident, which was captured on footage in the second car, which suffered damage to the front bumper and left headlight exceeding $1,000.

Marina Pascacio Nieira of Shelter Island was traveling eastbound on Chase Avenue on August 4 and made a left turn toward Cedar Avenue, colliding with a vehicle driven by Hally E. Dinkel of Shelter Island, who was driving westbound on North Ferry Road. Ms. Nieira stated she thought that Mr. Dinkel was going to turn right onto Cedar Avenue. Damage exceeded $1,000.

On Aug. 3, Henry W. Burrell of Brooklyn was driving westbound on Cobbetts Lane when he failed to negotiate a turn due to excessive speed for roadway conditions, left the roadway and struck a utility pole.

Paul C. Winum of Hilton Head, S.C. backed into a parked car owned by Danielle E. Martinez of Riverhead on North Ferry Road on Aug. 2. Damage exceeded $1,000.

On Aug. 1, Lukas E. Levine of New York City was backing out of a parking space at the Bridge Street Town Dock lot when his Jeep struck a parked BMW owned by David L. Luckman of Vero Beach, Fla. Damage exceeded $1,000.

OTHER REPORTS

Police received a report on Aug. 1 from a dispatcher, of a youth calling 911 to report other persons; this was the second such occurrence and was deemed unfounded. The mother of the individual involved responded to the scene and the complainant was left in her care. In response to a noise complaint about music at a wedding, a summons was issued for violating the Town Code to Nicholas Maracz, an employee of the Rams Head Inn on July 31.

In other reports: Officers responded to accidental 911 calls; provided lift assists; conducted wellness checks; responded to downed trees and wires; and conducted ferry line traffic.

ANIMAL INCIDENTS

Responding to a report of a dog on the beach on July 31 in violation of Town Code, the Animal Control Officer was told by the owner that the dog was a service animal. Another owner removed his dog from a beach on Aug. 5 when the ACO began writing a summons.

The ACO captured an injured gull reported walking in the middle of the road on Ram Island on Aug. 1 and will care for it. A motionless opossum in the middle of a Hay Beach Road was relocated by the ACO on Aug. 6. The ACO assisted with several searches for dogs at large.

ALARMS

Shelter Island Fire Department responded to a smoke alarm in West Neck on July 31 and determined it to be a false alarm. A smoke alarm activation in West Neck on Aug. 1 was due to shower steam, determined by SIFD on the scene. 2nd Assistant Chief P.J. Lechmanski responded to a smoke alarm in West Neck on Aug. 3 and determined it was a false alarm. SIFD responded to a smoke alarm on Aug. 6 in Hay Beach and determined it was a false alarm.

AIDED CASES

Shelter Island Emergency Medical Services and Stony Brook Paramedic responded to cases on July 31, Aug. 1 (4), 2, 3 (3), 5 (2), and 6. Ten persons were transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital for treatment. One person was transported to Southampton Hospital for treatment.

One person was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment.
