Guitar and violin concert: Finale of 2026 Friends of Music season

Shelter Island Friends of Music will present a concert on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 6 p.m. featuring guitarist JIJI and violinist Danbi Um. They’ve been described as a dynamic duo acclaimed for their expressive artistry and inventive programming.

Both artists are celebrated soloists in their own right, and together they craft performances of striking intimacy, rhythmic vitality, and emotional power — bridging genres and eras in seamless dialogue.

“A graceful and nuanced player … JIJI presented an intimate, captivating performance,” wrote the Kansas City Star. “Utterly dazzling,” was The Strad’s take on Danbi Um.

This is the ninth and final concert in the Shelter Island Friends of Music season, which has presented a variety of performances from string quartets to a piano cello duo to a brass quartet and more.

The concert, at Shelter Island Presbyterian Church, is free, and donations are welcome. A reception with the musicians will follow the performance.
