BEVERLEA WALZ PHOTO | The hot days of summer are upon us. Senior Citizens can stay cool during the hottest hours by visiting the Shelter Island Senior Center.
I was speaking with Senior Center Director Laurie Fanelli the other day and she urged me to remind seniors that as the weather becomes hot and humid, staying cool is necessary for good health.
The Senior Center on Route 114 below the Medical Center is a great cooling center during the oppressively hot weather. There is also the opportunity for socialization, nutrition and recreation for folks whose homes are not up to top notch cooling standards. The center is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. And when a heat emergency occurs, extended hours are announced. (more…)

By now we are all used to the animosity that’s been part of the primary debates and the presidential candidate debates. Everyone appears to be as nasty as possible.
And this negativity can cause great stress among voters, particularly seniors.
