They called it a public hearing, but nobody came to hear what Shelter Island Fire Commissioners have decided on for spending in the 2019 fiscal year.

With no public comments, the commissioners agreed on a spending plan of $936,910 of which $895,710 would be raised from real estate taxes. The balance comes from interest income and money paid by the Village of Dering Harbor for fire protection. (more…)

Shelter Island Fire Commissioners could have to pierce the tax cap tor a higher Center Firehouse tower and want to hear from the public at a hearing Tuesday, October 17, at 7 p.m.

For the first time since the state imposed a 2 percent tax rate cap on spending, the Shelter Island Fire District expects it may have to pierce that cap as it prepares its 2018 budget. (more…)

Three years after Shelter Island Fire Commissioners began discussions about locating a new cell tower at the Manhanset Firehouse on Cobbetts Lane, the application will be considered by the Zoning Board of Appeals. (more…)
