Jon DiVello discussed his recent takeover of the residential and commercial operations on Shelter Island that were previously handled by Dan Binder.
And then there was one. But maybe not for long.
With the battle between Jon DiVello’s Shelter Island Environmental and Dan Binder’s Shelter Island Sanitation settled in December 2014 by a buyout of Mr. Binder’s household and commercial refuse operation, customers are now served by one carter. But that may change.
Skip Norsic is silent about his plans, but the Southampton-based Emil Norsic & Son, has filed a permit application to be a garbage hauler on the Island, according to Public Works Commissioner Jay Card Jr. (more…)

Following an uproar from some residents concerned about the impact of large scale houses some feared would adversely affect the environment, the Town Board has begun a discussion about what if any steps should be taken to limit building sizes. (more…)

Carter Dan Binder says goodbye to legal battle.
Exactly a year to the day after a summons and complaint were filed in Suffolk County Civil Supreme Court charging that carter Dan Binder was purposely trying to mislead customers about who was handling pickup and disposal of their refuse, the case ended with a whimper in the same court on Tuesday. After more than a year of wrangling in court, carters Dan Binder and Jon DiVello have reached an out of court settlement in which Mr. Binder has agreed to sell about half of his business — the home pickup service — to Mr. DiVello. (more…)
