Amalfi at Claudio’s closes after just one week in Greenport

Amalfi at Claudio’s lasted just one week at the iconic Greenport waterfront.

The Italian coastal dining concept announced Thursday that it had closed — seven days after its much-ballyhooed debut on July 9.

Amalfi owner Sal Biundo, who runs the original location in Hampton Bays, had previously said the Greenport location would remain open through Halloween.

By Thursday, the restaurant was singing a different tune, calling it a “holiday pop-up” that was “wrapping up for the season.”

“While there was potential for the concept to continue at Claudio’s Marina through the season and beyond, Sal Biundo and Claudio’s ownership ultimately decided it was best to keep this engagement to a short run,” the statement said.

The statement did not elaborate on why the original plans changed.

“Claudio’s has partnered with operators on several pop-ups over the years, and the team has decided that the best next step is to put this incredible space to use for events and catering,” the statement said.

Times Review has reached out for additional comment.

The landmark restaurant space at the foot of Main Street had previously housed Charlie Boy, an Italian American concept that shuttered after one summer season last year.
