Mid-August is as busy as any time can be, even on a relaxing summer weekend on Shelter Island.

For the official Chamber of Commerce Duck Race on Saturday, Aug. 15 at 2 p.m., purchase your duck for $20 at shelterislandchamber.org/duck-race or in front of the IGA, or at Volunteer Park on Bridge Street just before the official dumping of the rubber ducks into Chase Creek. Winners share their take with the Chamber to support its programs on the Island.
The once-a-year free ArtSI Studio Tour arrives this weekend, with 17 studios open for visits. Go to artsi.info/about to find a map of the studios, where artists will welcome visitors to see their work, chat about the creative process, and discuss commissions. The tour is on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 15 and 16, from noon to 5 p.m.
On Sunday, Aug. 16 at 3:30 p.m., all are invited to a free History Museum event at 81 Ram Island Drive to meet the people behind the book, “This Land is Your Land,” on the preservation of the Island’s natural and historical resources. Visit shelterislandhistorical.org to RSVP.
Come to the free concert at the Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. when Shelter Island Friends of Music presents The Westerlies, a GRAMMY-nominated brass quartet celebrated for its innovative approach to chamber music, blending classical, jazz, folk, and contemporary influences.
Come to The Farmstand at Sylvester Manor on Tuesday, Aug. 18, from 4 to 6 p.m. for a Farm to Glass Cocktail Class.
