The Shelter Island Bucks stumbled out of the gate on the first weekend of the 2016 Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League (HCBL) season, dropping two games before their hometown crowd.

The Bucks lost 9-4 to the Riverhead Tomcats Friday afternoon to open the season at Fiske Field and 7-2 to the visiting Montauk Mustangs Saturday. A doubleheader on the road against Riverhead was rained out Sunday. (more…)

While the leading election event in November will be the vote for president, for this area another important contest involves the House of Representatives. The lst Congressional District seat is now held by Republican Lee Zeldin of Shirley. Anna Throne-Holst and Dave Calone are campaigning against each other to challenge him on the Democratic ticket. Thomas James Moran
Former longtime Shelter Island resident Thomas James Moran of Greenport died August 31, 2015 at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport. He was 84.

He was born August 24, 1931, in Franklin Square to Josephine (Barry) and Thomas Moran. He married Madeline (née Nicoll) on December 28, 1993, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church on Shelter Island. (more…)
