Union Chapel in the Grove welcomes David Lichtenstein, Ph.D., and members of the Shelter Island Historical Society on Sunday, July 7 at 10:30 am. Dr. Lichtenstein will speak about “A Treasure Hidden in Plain Sight,” the history of the Japanese-style bridge in South Ferry Hills. Members of the Historical Society will participate in the service as readers and ushers.

The bridge arched gently over a narrow inlet flowing from a lagoon, mirrored in the water that was dappled with rain one morning this week.
Beyond the bridge the calm blue water of Smith Cove opened up under the sky. (more…)

That was South Ferry Hills Homeowner’s Association President David Lichtenstein’s offer to the Town Board at its Tuesday work session.
Mr. Lichtenstein said the association’s members have pitched in to fund new bulkheads around Merkel Creek, a cost that some have estimated to be $200,000. (more…)
