It’s hard to believe, but spring temperatures finally decided to show up at the Shelter Island spring track teams’ last track and field invitational. In what has been a rarity this spring, sunny skies actually accompanied the warm temperatures. Both the varsity boys and girls teams traveled to East Hampton High School to compete in the East End Classic on Saturday, May 11. (more…)

Shelter Island junior Kal Lewis took the lead during the final straightaway and won the 1,600-meter race in the St. Anthony’s Invitational Saturday in 4 minutes, 15.22 seconds.
The season has finally begun to wind down, and there was a lot of action over the last two weeks.
On Saturday, April 27, both the Shelter Island boys and girls varsity track teams traveled to the Westhampton Beach Track Invitational, on a blustery, 50-degree day. The boys competed in the morning, the girls in the afternoon. (more…)

Just three years ago, Lupita Gadeas was a student in my investigative reporting class at the State University of New York/College at Old Westbury.
Following an internship at Adictivo, a TV program shot at studios in Hauppauge and Long Island City and aired on Telemundo, Lupita landed a job with Adictivo as a reporter.
In April, Lupita and two other journalists at Adictivo received an Emmy Award from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. (more…)

The morning of Saturday, October 14 was a scene familiar to some Islanders — the boys and girls cross country teams waiting in pre-dawn darkness at the North Ferry for the day’s first boat. A school bus came quickly down the hill, then halted to a stop several feet from the terminal. (more…)
