Island Girl Scout Brownie Makayla Cronin gifted Girl Scout cookies to seniors enjoying their lunch at the Shelter Island Presbyterian Church on Friday, March 22. This is the third year that Makayla has fundraised to give the cookies to seniors.

It’s a small gesture, but one that can bring a huge lift to the spirits of homebound residents. Each year, in advance of Valentine’s Day, young members of the junior garden club get together after school to create floral arrangements for recipients of the Meals on Wheels program. (more…)

Codger usually emerges in high spirits from the tunnel of winter and early spring, looking forward to the perks of balmy weather, the return of the Bucks, plump buttered bodies on Sunset Beach, the tick ambush, the undocumented two-day vacationers draining the aquifer, the … uh, oh, there he goes again.
