To the Editor:
The Village of Dering Harbor’s proposed “construction” law doesn’t control boat traffic, sea planes, helicopters, motorcycles, screaming jet skis and cigarette boats.

More disturbing is the exclusion of village employees and the golf club. Defending the law as a way to limit “noise?” Preposterous. (more…)

COURTESY PHOTO Friday Night Dialogues at the Library tomorrow will be devoted to a discussion about the Burning Man festival.

This year, from Sunday August 25 until Monday September 2, over 70,000 people will gather in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada to join together for Burning Man 2019. Participants join in the effort to co-create Black Rock City, a temporary metropolis dedicated to art and community.

David Rogers, a professor of sociology and a devoted summer resident of Shelter Island, where he moonlighted as a jazz piano player for nearly 40 years, died on February 27 at his home in Manhattan. He was 88.

The cause of death was prostate cancer, his family said. (more…)
