I believe trees are to be treasured and preserved whenever it is feasible.
I feel elevated and simultaneously humbled looking up at a stately oak. Recently, my family was walking through the Old Nursery Woodlands Preserve and came across a specimen of untold years. We had a moment of joy (and a great photograph) when three of us, holding hands, extended our arms and could barely reach around the giant truck to enclose its 15-foot circumference. (more…)

In your January 29 online post titled, “South Ferry boat under construction — fare hike contemplated,” Stella Lagudis was quoted as stating: “North Ferry has been contemplating adding a new boat to its fleet, but its plans are still not solidified …” The article was subsequently changed to read, “North Ferry is planning to add a new boat to its fleet, but officials there aren’t yet ready to talk about details…” (more…)

After four years of intense debate and negotiation, the proposed 120-foot cell tower on the grounds of the Manhanset Firehouse on Cobbetts Lane passed muster with the Town Board Tuesday.
The vote was 4-0, with Councilwoman Amber Brach-Williams abstaining because she is secretary-treasurer of the Fire District, creating a potential conflict of interest. (more…)
