All non-member moms can play for free on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12 at the Shelter Island Country Club (SICC) at Goat Hill. No tee times are needed, just load up the clubs and head to the course (cart fee applies).

Before and after your round, treat mom to a special Mother’s Day Brunch at the Flying Goat clubhouse restaurant where all moms will receive a complimentary mimosa. Call (631)749-5404 for reservations. And not to worry, dads. Your greens fees are also waived on Father’s Day, June 16. (more…)

The membership of the Shelter Island Country Club has voted 116 to 2 to continue to pursue status as a nonprofit corporation. The go-ahead came via mail-in ballots, the results of which were announced on January 31. (more…)

Town Board members agreed at their May 30 work session that Shelter Island will adopt the Cornell Local Roads Program of standards for maintenance purposes.

It’s not necessary to reinvent the wheel when Cornell has done the work that applies to upkeep on what are mostly considered low-volume roadways, Town Engineer John Cronin said. (more…)

Just when Islanders thought the worst had passed from the heavy rains and winds that whipped the area last night and early this morning, they found that the calm  that followed was only temporary.
