Highway Department rapidly clears Island roads after storm

The strong, gusty winds of yesterday and last night brought down four big trees, snapped a telephone pole and left the Island strewn with branches, according to Highway Department Superintendent Brian Sherman.

But highway crews, starting at 4:30 this morning, cleared all roads, and every PSEG customer on the Island has power, Mr. Sherman reported at 8:30 a.m.
